Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat 2.0

The Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat is designed to foster an intergenerational leadership continuum where participants engage (and are engaged by) President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR (and facilitators selected by him), on concurrent leadership issues and pragmatic approaches to confronting challenges and creating opportunities in all areas of endeavours.

The second edition was held from 24-27 November 2021. It was themed “The Pragmatic Youth” and it took place at the Youth Development Centre (YDC) of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria and virtually to selected international delegates.

Participants arrived onsite on Wednesday, November 24 and attended a “Welcome Dinner” that turned out to be more than just a session to dine and wine. Welcomed warmly by the Chairperson of the YDC, the Deputy Chief Coordinator of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Mr. Ayodele Aderinwale, MFR, challenged the delegates to up their expectations and realign their perception to provide solutions and create opportunities rather than present themselves to be spoon-fed. His engagement would reflect the exact position of President Obasanjo when he later joined delegates for dinner. After eating Yam Pepper Soup with the delegates, the President retired to his chambers with a call on the delegates to think of a problem around them and present the solutions to him the next day.

The long night of the arrival notwithstanding, President Obasanjo, was at the Youth Hostel, where delegates were accommodated by 4.00 a.m. on Thursday, 25 November 2021, for an early morning exercise as he was billed to travel for an engagement 5.00 a.m. the same day…More details to come in the full report.
